STILLWATER, OK - Cowboys Basketball suffered their first loss under new head coach Brad Underwood this morning. Early Monday morning Oklahoma State Junior F Joe Burton announced on his Instagram that he was leaving the OSU program.
"After thinking long and hard my family and I decided it would be best for me to part ways with Oklahoma state, I just want to thank this program for all the opportunities that they have giving me, this program has taught me a lot things and has matured me these past two years of college." wrote Burton.
After seeing very limited playing time as a freshman, the 6-foot-6 forward became a impactful player his second season at Oklahoma State due to a injury depleted roster. In his sophomore season for the Cowboys Burton averaged 4.3 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 12.6 minutes per game.
"I also want to thank coach Travis Ford and his staff for recruiting me out of high school," Burton continued, "it was a true blessing being able to play for you at Oklahoma state and I wish the new coach Brad Underwood and his staff nothing but the best on there upcoming season. Thank you."
Before Burton's announcement, Oklahoma State was set to be one scholarship over the allotted limit.
Even after reading his post many Cowboys Basketball fans are left with questions. Burton did not give a reason for his departure from the program or any clues of where he may land. A native of Porter, TX many are thinking his home state may be a possible landing spot while other rumor mills have connected Burton's name to Georgia State.
With Burtons decision to leave OSU many fans are questioning how Coach Underwood may fill the void that has been left. While others are left wondering if this is a single event or if they should expect more players to follow Burton's lead.
